Puppet Archives is designed as a companion piece to the Douglas Hayward Puppet Collection, housed in the Staffordshire County Museum, Shugborough Estate, near Stafford, UK.

In addition to collecting puppets for his exhibition, Douglas also gathered together much printed material related to the theme of the collection - pioneers of the art of modern puppetry in the UK.  Presented here, therefore, is a selection of that supporting material, plus some newly researched items where relevant.

The choice of puppet practitioners featured is not intended in any way to be definitive, but rather is governed by the quality and quantity of materials available.  Updates will be added regularly.
